Short Reads meets (online!) the third Wednesday of the month, 7pm (EST). We read through every genre, form, and vibe that fits into 150 pages (or less).
Sign up here to get the link to the discussion, and optionally to buy this month’s book at a 10% discount (we’ll mail it to you if you don’t want to come into the store).
Currently: Our next meeting will be June 21st at 7pm, where we'll be discussing "Upright Women Wanted" by Sarah Gaiely - a cowboy-western dystopia, full of traveling librarians and shoot-outs and teenage crushes
Afternoon Reads is a mid-afternoon book club that usually meets the second Thursday of the month at 1pm. Pick a book on the month's theme, and come discuss what the theme meant to you, what we each read, and what we thought of it!
(Feel like browsing? Let our booksellers know that it’s for the book club and your book will be 10% off. We’re also always happy to make recommendations!)
Sign up here to get reminder emails and announcements of each month’s themes.
Currently: Our next meeting will be a little off our usual pattern; June 15th at 1pm, for which our theme will be "picked by the book club" - read the book we swapped at our May discussion. If you weren't at the May swap: we have some blind staff picks available in the store (ask at the register) - or email [email protected] for a personalized rec!
Special Topics is a series of book clubs - we restart every four months with a dive into a new literary niche.
Currently we are Special Topics in Bicycling!
June-September (with an October bonus), we'll be reading four very different novels that all feel like the author loves bicycling. We'll also be doing a bonus non-fic 5th month, and some other extras in cooperation with Bike Durham - please check our Bike Durham x Letters Bookshop page for full details on this run of Special Topics (or to sign up)!
*For book clubs that meet in person at the store: we meet on the second floor, which is up a flight of stairs. Letters is currently a mask-requested space, but not a masks-required space, so note that you're likely to see some unmasked faces. We have gender neutral bathrooms, armless chairs, and limited drinks/snacks (including beer & wine) available for sale.
